The game will mark the first matchup between the Terps and Gamecocks in Baltimore and the first since March 29, 2005, in the National Invitational Tournament semifinals at Madison Square Garden. Maryland owns a 31-27 lead in the all-time series. The two schools were once rivals in both the Southern Conference and the Atlantic Coast Conference between 1925 and 1971.

The meeting is the fourth nonconference game of the season to be announced for the Terps. They will travel to Georgetown on Nov. 7, host Virginia on Nov. 13 and then open their stay in the Players Era Tournament opener against Tennessee on Nov. 24. Maryland will also host Illinois, Indiana, Michigan State, Minnesota, Nebraska, Northwestern, Rutgers, UCLA, USC and Wisconsin at XFINITY Center as part of the Big Ten schedule.
