The Golden State Warriors may be entering the season with the same core, but the organization reportedly hasn’t ruled out the possibility of bringing Kevin Durant back in the future.
According to Brett Siegel of Clutch Points, league sources say Golden State would be interested in another partnership between Durant and Stephen Curry if the veteran forward becomes available.
“The organization has not completely moved on from the idea of one day reuniting [Steph] Curry with former Warrior and two-time Finals MVP Kevin Durant,” Siegel wrote.
“Lacob and the Warriors would welcome Durant back with open arms, much like they were prepared to do in 2025 before he and his business partner Rich Kleiman stopped the trade deadline deal in its tracks.”
Siegel added that Durant reportedly rejected a return to Golden State in 2025 because he wanted long-term stability in Phoenix. Instead, he was eventually traded to the Houston Rockets, while the Warriors pivoted to acquiring Jimmy Butler.
Golden State has since missed out on several other superstar targets, including LeBron James, who chose to sign with the Philadelphia 76ers.
Head coach Steve Kerr recently said he was comfortable with the current roster and never believed the Warriors were serious contenders to land James.
The team’s biggest offseason addition is rookie Yaxel Lendeborg, who impressed during Summer League by leading Golden State to the championship and earning Finals MVP honors.
Still, with Curry entering his age-38 season and the Warriors relying on an aging core that has battled injuries, speculation about another major move is likely to continue.
