Sophie Cunningham is well known for her dazzling pregame outfits, but the WNBA and Indiana Fever star kept it a bit simpler ahead of the Sunday afternoon game against the Minnesota Lynx.
Cunningham entered the Target Center decked out in a white t-shirt and black shorts with white sneakers and a yellow sweater draped over her shoulders.

If we didn’t know any better, we would say Cunningham was on her way to the country club for a round of golf.
It was definitely one of the more tame outfits Cunningham has rocked this season.
Cunningham and the Fever have been on a heater lately, with the team winning five straight games and seven of its last eight.
Indiana has also set a new WNBA record by posting 100-plus points in five straight games.

Sunday’s road matchup against the Lynx will be a real test, though, as Minnesota sports the league’s best record at 24-6 and is led by rookie sensation, Olivia Miles.

You’ve probably heard about the controversy surrounding Sophie Cunningham, who has been outspoken about transgender athletes taking part in girl’s and women’s sports.
“I got a lot of negative feedback about me hating trans. And I’m like, ‘I never once said that,'” she said in an ESPN article from July 21. “I think that I am here to extend love. But I also think with that love is truth, being honest. And I want to protect young girls in a locker room, or young girls in sport who shouldn’t have to go against biological men.”

Cunningham’s comments have received backlash, but there has also been an outpouring of support, and even to the extent that rallies have been held outside of arenas the Fever are playing in.

The Seattle Storm‘s co-owner, Celeste Keaton, got herself in hot water after she confronted two of Cunningham’s supporters during the July 28 game against the Fever.
Keaton reportedly called the supporters “f****** insane,” which left one of them in tears.
The WNBA has since suspended Keaton for her actions.
“The WNBA has suspended Seattle Storm co-owner Celeste Keaton from attending the team’s next five home games after her exchange with two fans during Tuesday’s matchup with the Indiana Fever, the league confirmed Thursday,” ESPN reported.

“We respect the league’s decision to fine and suspend co-owner Celeste Keaton,” the Storm said in the statement. “We remain committed to creating a welcoming and respectful environment for anyone who attends a Storm game.”

Cunningham went on to rip the Storm co-owner for confronting the supporters.
“Truly embarrassing of the co-owner. Unfortunately shows the type of leader she is,” Cunningham said.
Cunningham was met with boos during the Fever’s last road contest against the Portland Fire on July 31, and we would expect to see more of that during away games as the season progresses.
What we would not expect is for Cunningham to back down. That just isn’t in her DNA.
