Jonathan Taylor and the Indianapolis Colts have agreed to a 2-year, $44 million contract extension, according to ESPN’s Adam Schefter.
The deal can reach as high as $47 million based on incentives. Taylor, 27, is guaranteed $39 million.
Taylor, a three-time Pro Bowler and former rushing champion who led the NFL with 18 rushing touchdowns last season, was scheduled to play on the final season of a three-year, $42 million contract in 2026. Now he has his third contract with the franchise that will take him through the remainder of his prime.

Taylor’s been one of the game’s most productive players throughout his six-season NFL career. He led the league in rushing and rushing touchdowns in 2021 with 1,811 yards and 18 scores en route to first-team All-Pro honors.
Outside of two seasons in which he was limited to 11 games or fewer, he’s remained among the league’s rushing leaders with 1,169-plus yard on the ground in four of his six seasons.
Taylor showed no signs of slowing down last season at 26 years old, tallying 1,585 rushing yards on a league-high 323 carries while leading the NFL again with 18 rushing touchdowns. He also posted his career-best season as a pass catcher with 378 yards and 2 touchdowns on 46 receptions.

Taylor is key to a Colts offense with questions at quarterback as Daniel Jones returns from an Achilles injury on top of lingering questions about his impact as an NFL starter. Having a difference maker in Taylor in the backfield makes Jones’ job easier.
Taylor’s previous contract talks were considerably more contentious and prompted Taylor to hold in and request a trade before signing his second deal in 2023. There was no such drama this time around as Taylor was a participant at training camp from Day 1.
Taylor previously said “I would definitely love to be a Colt for life” amid public support from owner team Carlie Irsay-Gordon to keep him in Indianapolis.
With the deal Taylor becomes the second big-name running back to sign an extension during training camp. The first was Bijan Robinson of the Atlanta Falcons, who signed a record-setting three-year deal that could reach up to $75 million.
With Robinson and Taylor under contract, Detroit Lions star Jahmyr Gibbs remains the one running back still seeking a massive extension before the 2026 NFL season.
