Detroit Lions superstar Jahmyr Gibbs has returned to training camp practices, according to Pride of Detroit’s Jeremy Reisman.
Gibbs reported for Lions training camp last week, and while he has been participating in meetings and with his teammates, he had yet to practice while he waits for a new deal to arrive. On Thursday, he was in full uniform and participated in warm-ups, but when the team shifted to individual drills, he stepped off to the side to work with a trainer, suggesting he is going through an acclimation process.
This return to the field for Gibbs is another optimistic sign that he could be nearing a contract extension with the Lions, which lines up with a recent report from The Athletic’s Jonathan Jones. Before Thursday’s practice, Jones expressed optimism surrounding a new deal, based on conversations with sources, and reported that a deal could “get done this week for Gibbs.”

Gibbs has not formally met with the media in camp, and while reporters—Pride of Detroit included—have attempted to ask him about his situation, he’s kept things very close to the vest. When asked when he plans to rejoin his teammates on the practice field, he simply responded: “Time will tell.”
On Tuesday, coach Dan Campbell was asked how other NFL running backs getting extensions could help facilitate the process of getting a deal done with Gibbs; he noted how it could help and that he was excited to get the star running back on the field.
“I think it certainly’s not going to hurt,” Campbell said. “It’s not going to hurt, but we’ll see. I’m anxious to get Gibbs back out there. Every day that goes by, that’s another day that you feel like you miss with him and getting him out there with the guys and him doing his part. But, there again, it’ll get done when it gets done.”
On Wednesday, general manager Brad Holmes was also asked for his thoughts on the situation by SiriusXM radio hosts Pat Kirwan and Jacob Hester, and Holmes noted that the two sides remain in communication.

“Look, obviously we love Jahmyr,” Holmes said. “Me and Dan (Campbell) have always been believers in that one-two punch. I just think that’s how this league is going now. But, you know, we’re having dialogue. We’ll see where it goes.”
Will continue to update this situation as it progresses.
