The Pittsburgh Pirates are playing in a Thursday matinee for the series finale against the Milwaukee Brewers at American Family Field.

The Pirates will hand the ball to their All-Star starter Braxton Ashcraft, who has won his last two starts, including his last appearance on August 1 against the Cincinnati Reds on the road. He pitched five innings, giving up two hits and one run in a 4-1 victory. Ashcraft has been the Pirates’ most successful pitcher this season, and the team will need him to stay hot in order to stay in the wild card hunt.
Facing off against Ashcraft is Dustin May, who is making his debut with the Brewers after being acquired in a trade shortly before the deadline earlier this week. May went 5-7 with a 4.38 ERA in 21 appearances with the St. Louis Cardinals earlier this season. This will mark May’s third start against the Pirates this season, after pitching against them on the road at PNC Park in April and at Busch Stadium in May.
May struggled in his last start against the Pirates back on May 21 at Bush Stadium. He gave up six hits and four earned runs in 5.1 innings as Pittsburgh won 6-2.
