Today marked the eighth Philadelphia Eagles training camp practice ahead of the 2026 NFL season. Here’s what I observed down at the Jefferson Health Training Complex!

The Eagles held a scrimmage today in what was their longest practice of camp. ‘Twas a grueling session in the hot summer heat.

C Cam Jurgens wasn’t listed on the injury report despite leaving Friday’s practice early. That was good to see. But Jurgens left practice early again for the second day in a row, albeit late in the session. Something to continue to monitor. Kendall took first-team center reps after Jurgens left.

JALEN HURTS UPDATE: Another practice from Hurts that left me more encouraged about his outlook than not. Stock up!

THE GOOD:

Hurts connected with a crossing Hollywood Brown on the right side of the field. If I’m nitpicking, the ball was slightly behind his target, but still entirely catchable.

Hurts hit Brown again on a crosser, this time on the left side of the field in the red zone, for a catch-and-run touchdown with Saquon Barkley preventing Zack Baun from stopping the receiver short of the goal line.

Hurts made a nice pre-snap read to recognize Wicks was going to be open between the hashes and the numbers. Hurts quickly put a ball on his target for a good gain.

Hurts hit Wicks over the middle in stride for first down yardage.

It’s clear that Hurts and Wicks have chemistry. And that’s crucial since Hurts has a tendency to especially lean into the targets he trusts … and avoid the ones he doesn’t.

Hurts got the defensive line to bite on a pump fake that freed up a short dump off to Johnny Mundt.

Hurts took a quarterback draw to the end zone. He’s looked pretty spry as a runner.

Hurts completed a pass to Moore over the middle with timing.

Hurts may have been “sacked” on this play … but he floated a ball to Goedert in the front right corner of the end zone that allowed the veteran tight end to make a jump ball grab at the catch point to beat Jihaad Campbell for a touchdown. Nice touch throw.

Hurts found a crossing Moore in the end zone for a successful two-point conversion.

THE BAD:

Hurts threw the ball out of bounds on a rep where Wicks was open along the right sideline. Not sure if he sailed it or if it was a throwaway. Either way, it looked like there was a completion to be made and it wasn’t.

Hurts was fortunate not to get picked off on a throw intended for Moore. The ball was floated short of his target and it looked like a diving Zack Baun was going to get the interception … but Moore ripped it out of the linebacker’s control at the last moment to bail out his quarterback. Really good catch.

Baun did later intercept a Hurts pass. I can live with that mistake because it was an on-script throw and Hurts taking risks over the middle has been much more fruitful than not this summer. If this type of occasional turnover is the price to pay for an offense that’s more aggressive than it was last year, I think that’s a net positive.

Saquon Barkley had some good runs today with the offensive line opening up holes for him. One such instance came when the Eagles’ offense was backed up against their own end zone and Barkley got freed up for a long touchdown run. Barkley found the end zone on a short run to cap off a successful drive by the offense. After scoring, Barkley went up to Cooper DeJean and got in his face to rub it in. Barkley then got into a shoving match with Quinyon Mitchell … but it looked more playful than truly heated. Fun to see some competitive intensity.

Jordan Mailata was not flagged for what looked like a hold on a Barkley run to the left side but he probably should’ve been.

Jalen Carter notched multiple “sacks” today, which is no surprise since he’s lived in the backfield all training camp long. The more I see from him, the more I believe he’s going to have a monster season. He looks ready to dominate.

Jordan Davis also continues to look really good as both a run defender and a pass rusher.

Jalyx Hunt flushed Hurts from the pocket by getting pressure from the right side of the offensive line.

Jihaad Campbell had some really good run fits in this practice. That was good to see.

I’m going to have to put myself in the “Losers” section of my next W-L-IDKs for not seeing offensive line versus defensive line 1-on-1s today. Not sure how I managed to get distracted and miss them. Bad job by me. Outsourcing:

Lampkin notably took reps at second-team right guard in addition to third-team center. The Eagles seem to be taking a long look at him, as they should be. I think Lampkin is going to crush the preseason and win a roster spot, small stature be damned.

Accounting for the above, Ty Robinson had his best practice as an Eagle. In addition to his success in 1-on-1s, he drew a false start penalty on John Ojukwu in team drills. He still has a lot of ground to make up but this was a positive step for the second-year defensive tackle.

Michael Carter II knocked the ball out of E.J. Jenkins’ hands to force an incompletion. Relative to expectation, the Eagles’ top three safeties are looking good in camp. There’s always room to upgrade but I don’t think that position is in dire shape, which more than a minority have thought to be the case.

Nolan Smith had good edge contain on a play where Hurts sprinted left looking for an easy completion … but instead was forced to throw the ball away.

BACKUP QUARTERBACK BATTLE UPDATE: Continuing with the regular rotation, Andy Dalton was first up at quarterback with the second-team offense. Dalton should’ve had a good completion over the middle to an open Eli Stowers … but the rookie tight end coughed up the ball. Really bad drop. Dalton had a pass to Samari Toure knocked down by Tariq Castro-Fields … just not enough zip on that out route ball. I didn’t write down McKee’s name much in my notes, for better or for worse.

Unlike the QB2 battle, the Eagles are no longer rotating at backup right tackle. Markel Bell was the top option there once again. Given Lane Johnson’s stated intention to retire after 2026, maybe the Eagles are putting an extra emphasis on Bell getting as many reps there as possible. But it could also be true that Bell is ahead of Fred Johnson for that job.

MORE SIGNS OF LIFE FROM ELI STOWERS: Yes, Stowers had a really bad drop. But he secured the ball on three or four other targets, which is the most action he’s seen in an Eagles practice this offseason. Nothing flashy by any means but he appears to be taking baby steps in the right direction.

DAILY DARIUS COOPER IS AWESOME REMINDER: Cooper was ruled out of bounds by the side judge on a rep where he made a toe-tapping catch along the left sideline but I think instant replay may have overturned that one. Catch or not, it was a great effort and just another example of Cooper flashing in a good way. He makes plays in every practice.

As you may have gleaned from the Hurts section earlier in this article, Elijah Moore had another good day. He’s making a case for a spot on the roster. And, hey, maybe the Eagles have enough at receiver to weather a potential slow start by Lemon?

Tank Bigsby had a really good rep in pass protection where he crushed a blitzing Ambry Thomas. But then Jeremiah Trotter Jr. did well to quickly get by Bigsby to draw a holding penalty with Dalton standing in the end zone for a would-be safety.

Will Shipley was stuffed on a first-team red zone run. It’s hard to make the case he’s a top three ball-carrying talent on the Eagles’ roster.

Carson Steele stood out to me today. He saw a bigger workload than normal with both Mitchell and Pierce leaving practice early. He first caught my attention with a really strong blitz pickup where he sacrificed his body to neutralize the oncoming defender. As a ball-carrier, Steele runs with a physicality that reminds me of Jordan Howard, who wasn’t explosive but had a good knack for getting was blocked for him and regularly falling forward (as opposed to taking losses). Steele also made some catches, including a short grab for a touchdown.

E.J. Jenkins beat Jakorian Bennett on a slant for a catch-and-run. Not a good outcome for the cornerback.

Cole Payton began the Eagles’ developmental period with a really bad interception thrown to Maximus Pulley. Not only an inadvisable decision but a bad throw as well. Payton rebounded from there with a lot of good completions in timing that helped the offense move the ball. Good to see resiliency from the rookie quarterback. There’s some promise here.

Funny moment late in today’s practice where Nick Sirianni — who was speaking on the megaphone — roasted Jalyx Hunt for not liking the scoring system the Eagles were using in this scrimmage. The head coach called out Hunt for complaining about it all practice long. Despite Hunt’s disdain for the system, the defense won the day by the final results of the scoreboard.

Jake Elliott is now 19/20 on kicks in training camp after going 6/6 today. It was hard to tell the precise distances but it was something like makes from 33, 35, 38, 41, 44, and 47. Elliott had a good camp last summer before a second straight down season, so, it’s hard to say his struggles are definitely behind him. But it’s certainly not a bad thing that he’s having a good camp. His contract restructure from earlier this year already cemented his place on the 2026 roster … but the Eagles probably would’ve had to bite the bullet on him if he had a downright disastrous summer, which he’s avoided to this point.

One leftover I forgot to include in Friday’s notes: Arnold Ebiketie generated pressure on a rep where Hurts’ pass was deflected at the line of scrimmage by Carter. Ebiketie has had some good moments, he seems like a quality rotational edge rusher.

Eagles owner Jeffrey Lurie was visibly present at practice for the first time this summer.
