The Las Vegas Raiders held quarterback Kirk Cousins and pass rusher Maxx Crosby out of practice a day after the two got into a scuffle at the end of the team’s session on Saturday, Aug. 8.
Raiders coach Klint Kubiak confirmed the decision was related to a violation of team rules stemming from the fight.

“We have very clear expectations on how we want to practice and how we want to go about our business and we violated that yesterday, so held those guys out,” Kubiak said, per Sam Warren of The Athletic. “That’s all I’m gonna say about it.”
Kubiak said both Cousins and Crosby will return to practice during the Raiders’ next session on Monday, Aug. 10.
The scuffle between Crosby and Cousins stemmed from the pass rusher hitting the 37-year-old quarterback on multiple occasions during practice on Thursday, Aug. 7. Cousins confronted his teammate after being hit a second time, grabbing Crosby’s jersey and exchanging words with him before the scrap was broken up.
Kubiak didn’t seem overly concerned about the tussle during his post-practice media availability on Thursday.

“That’s training camp,” Kubiak told reporters. “Those are two leaders of our team going at it. That is part of camp.”
Nonetheless, Kubiak opted to hold out the veterans as he continues to set expectations in his first season with the Raiders.
Cousins’ absence was the more notable of the two, as it allowed No. 1 overall pick Fernando Mendoza to operate as the Raiders’ first-string quarterback for the first time of training camp.
