Anthony Edwards believes the revamped Minnesota Timberwolves have the talent to finish on top of the Western Conference this season.
During a visit to Manila, Philippines, Edwards was asked about Minnesota’s chances against two of its biggest Western Conference rivals, the Oklahoma City Thunder and San Antonio Spurs.
“Against those two teams, I think we’re going to beat them,” Edwards told ESPN.
Despite that confidence, the All-NBA guard acknowledged that Minnesota still needs time to bring its reshaped roster together before focusing on a championship.
“It would mean a lot (to win a championship)… But right now, I don’t think we’re thinking about winning the championship,” Edwards said. “It’s step by step. We got LaMelo (Ball), a new player, and a bunch of new pieces.
“So, we are just trying to build it together and I think we’re trying to gel it all together.”
With Ball and several other newcomers joining the roster, Edwards believes developing chemistry is Minnesota’s immediate priority.
Once the new group finds its rhythm, he is confident the Timberwolves can compete with the West’s strongest teams.
