A familiar face for BYU fans is unexpectedly back on the transfer market.
Former Cougars point guard Dallin Hall has entered the transfer portal, according to a report from Pete Nakos of On3 Sports.
Additionally, Hall entered the portal with a “do not contact” tag, meaning schools are unable to reach out to him and only he can initiate the recruitment communication.

Hall’s portal entry comes after U.S. District Judge Charlotte Sweeney in Denver ruled that the NCAA must give college athletes who recently exhausted their four years of eligibility another season to play.
Hall spent what he previously thought to be his final college campaign at Virginia this past year, making 36 starts, averaging 5.9 points, 3.6 rebounds and 4.3 assists per game and helping the Cavaliers reach the ACC title game and NCAA Tournament’s Round of 32.
In conference play, Hall ranked sixth in the ACC in assists (4.6 per game) and first in assist to turnover ratio (3.6).
During his time at BYU from 2022-25, Hall averaged 7.1 points and 4.4 assists across 100 games, earning All-Big 12 Honorable Mention honors as a sophomore.

The Cougars, unlike many other schools at this point in the offseason, currently have two open roster spots and could theoretically add Hall, who has been seen working out at the Marriott Center Annex with the team during the summer.
However, BYU’s most glaring need remains at the center position, as Kevin Young and his staff have been linked to fellow newly-eligible fifth-year transfer big man Jaxon Kohler.
Adding both a point guard of Hall’s caliber and highly-coveted center in Kohler appears financially unlikely for BYU. The Cougars already have a potential All-American at point guard in Rob Wright III along with Collin Chandler at another guard spot, while Kohler would fill the Cougars’ most daunting roster hole in the frontcourt. If Young has to choose between the pair of fifth-years, Kohler makes the most sense.
But if Hall were to somehow end up at BYU, with or without Kohler, his veteran experience and leadership, playmaking and shooting ability would clearly benefit the Cougars and go a long way in deepening their rotation.
