Jason Richardson is returning to the Denver Nuggets organization, announcing Wednesday that he will join the team as an analyst for the 2026-27 season.
“I’m excited to officially announce that I’ll be joining the Denver Nuggets as an analyst this season,” Richardson wrote. “Denver has always been a special place for me and my family. We’ve built so many lifelong friendships here and have always considered Colorado home.”
Richardson, a 14-year NBA veteran and two-time Slam Dunk Contest champion, played the 2009-10 season with Denver. He averaged 16.5 points, 4.9 rebounds and 2.7 assists in 82 regular-season games, shooting 47.5 percent from the field and 41.6 percent from three-point range.
His move into an analyst role comes as the Nuggets reshape their roster following a 54-28 regular season that placed them third in the Western Conference. Denver finished 10 games behind the conference-leading Oklahoma City Thunder and carried a 12-game winning streak into the postseason.
The Nuggets were eliminated in the first round by the Minnesota Timberwolves, losing the series 4-2.
Nikola Jokic again led the franchise statistically, averaging 27.7 points, 12.9 rebounds and 10.7 assists in 65 games while finishing second in MVP voting. Jamal Murray added 25.4 points and 7.1 assists per game, shooting 43.5 percent from three-point range across 75 appearances.
Denver’s offseason has since included several significant roster changes. Peyton Watson agreed to a sign-and-trade move to the Cleveland Cavaliers, while Jonas Valanciunas was waived and Tim Hardaway Jr. and Bruce Brown departed in free agency.
The Nuggets re-signed Tyus Jones and added Marvin Bagley III, while also acquiring draft assets in separate moves involving Peyton Watson and the No. 26 overall pick. Denver selected Trevon Brazile at No. 35 and Bryce Hopkins at No. 49 in the 2026 NBA Draft.
Richardson’s appointment adds another former NBA player to the organization as Denver prepares for a season shaped by both roster turnover and its continuing championship window around Jokic and Murray. Richardson said returning to Colorado made the opportunity particularly meaningful.
“To be back in Denver and now have the opportunity to be part of the Nuggets organization makes this next chapter even more meaningful,” Richardson wrote. “I’m grateful for the opportunity and can’t wait to get started.”
