The Chicago Bulls have hired Quincy Pondexter as the new head coach of their NBA G League affiliate, the Windy City Bulls, according to K.C. Johnson of the Chicago Sports Network.
Pondexter, 38, is entering his first professional head-coaching role after spending several years as a college assistant.
The former NBA player appeared for five teams between 2010 and 2019, including a stint with Chicago.
After his playing career, Pondexter joined the coaching staff at his alma mater, Washington, where he worked as an assistant from 2021 to 2024.
He later spent a season at USC before returning to Washington last year.
Pondexter previously spoke about his ambition to eventually become an NBA head coach.
Taking charge of Windy City gives him an opportunity to move closer to that goal while trying to turn around a team that has posted losing records in each of the past three seasons.
He replaces Billy Donovan III, who coached the Windy City Bulls for the previous two seasons.
Donovan’s father, former Bulls head coach Billy Donovan, left Chicago after last season and is set to serve as the Spurs’ lead assistant.
