Four standouts headline a group of outstanding student-athletes named to the 2025-26 Academic All-America men’s swimming & diving teams as selected by College Sports Communicators.

Josh Liendo from the University of Florida, Alvaro Zornoza from Drury University, Cooper Costello from the University of Chicago, and Ruthiik Satti from the University of the Cumberlands lead the Academic All-America teams by being named as the Academic All-America Team Member of the Year for NCAA Divisions I, II, and III as well as the NAIA, respectively.

NCAA Division I

Josh Liendo, a senior majoring in educational sciences, owns a grade-point average of 3.56 and is a now a two-time first-team Academic All-America. The native of Toronto, Canada capped an incredible career while leading Florida to a second-place finish at the NCAA Division I National Championship, the best showing for the program in 39 years. That dates back to a runner-up result in 1985 and marks just the Gators’ second-ever second-place finish and the highest since back-to-back national titles in 1983 and 1984.

Liendo earned seven first-team All-American honors to bring his career total to 26. That ranks fourth all-time in program history. His nine national titles rank second all-time among Gators. He was honored as the CSCAA Co-Swimmer of the Year for his efforts. He swept his individual events (50 freestyle, 100 freestyle, 100 butterfly) for the second time, joining Florida legend Caeleb Dressel as the only Gators to achieve this twice. Liendo scored a meet-high 60 individual points and broke NCAA, U.S. Open, meet, and program records in the 100 fly twice in a single day, while posting career-best times of 18.6 and 39.91 in the 50 and 100 free, respectively.

In addition to the individual events he was an All-American as part of four relay teams – 200-yard freestyle relay (first team), 400-yard freestyle relay (first team), 200-yard medley relay (first team) and 400-yard medley relay (first team).

On the conference level Liendo was selected the 2026 SEC Male Swimmer of the Year for the second time (2023) and was a four-time All-SEC first-team honoree. He was also the 2026 SEC Championships Men’s Swimmer of the Meet, in the process becoming the first Gator to win four straight SEC Championships in the 100-yard butterfly. He was a champion in three other events.

Liendo is a two-time Olympian, competing in the 2020 Olympic games in Tokyo and the 2024 Olympic games in Paris. He became the first Black Canadian to earn an Olympic medal, earning a silver medal in 2024 in the 100-meter butterfly.

In addition to Liendo, Jonny Kulow of Arizona State University was a repeat first team Academic All-America selection. Kulow is now a three-time first team Academic All-America selection after previously earning the honor in 2023-24 and 2024-25.
