CHICAGO When Atlanta Dream forward Angel Reese landed back in Chicago for 2026 WNBA All-Star Weekend on Thursday, July 23, it took a little longer for her to deplane.

A special VIP landed at the same time.

“When my plane was landing yesterday … they said, ‘VIP. Nobody can get off the plane,'” Reese recalled on Friday, July 24. “I’m like, ‘Well, we’re VIP too.’ And then they said, ‘Obama.’ And I was like, ‘OK, OK, OK.’”

The special VIP was former President Barack Obama, who surprised the WNBA All-Stars at the eponymous Barack Obama Presidential Center early July 24. Obama gave a brief speech during team practice, shook everyone’s hand and even played “one on one” with Jonquel Jones. He also posed for photos, an opportunity Reese described as once-in-a-lifetime.

“Not everybody just gets to meet Barack (Obama). That was my first time too,” added Reese, who took pictures of her teammates with the former president. “Baby, you got to get your (picture). I’m getting a picture of everybody. I got one of (Kahleah Copper), got one of me, a selfie. I think it’s important just to capture every moment.”
