Arizona DII State Champion Shea Oenning Chooses Idaho for 2027
NEW COMMIT: The University of Idaho has scored a verbal commitment for the 2027-28 season and beyond from Shea Oenning of Scottsdale, Arizona. Oenning is a Futures qualifier who excels in backstroke and butterfly.
Regarding her commitment, she said:
“I am so excited to announce my commitment to continue my academic and athletic career at the University of Idaho! I would like to thank my family, friends, coaches and teammates for all their support throughout the years. I would also like to thank Coach Mark and Coach Elizabeth for this amazing opportunity. I’m looking forward to many wonderful years ahead. GO VANDALS!”
Oenning trains year-round with Phoenix Swim Club and most recently competed at the Arizona Long Course Senior State Championships where her highest finish was a fourth-place showing in the 200m back. She had a trio of top-10 finishes at the Southeastern Senior Championships in December before finaling in four events at the Arizona Short Course Senior State Championships. She also finished 17th in the 100 back at Four Corner Speedo Sectionals in March.
Her best times include:
- 50 back – 27.85
- 100 back – 57.44
- 200 back – 2:02.10
- 100 fly – 57.51
A rising senior at Paradise Valley High School, Oenning earned gold in the 100 back and bronze in the 100 fly at the 2025 Arizona DII State Championships. She took fourth and third, respectively, in those events at the state meet during her sophomore season.
Oenning’s best time in the 200 back would’ve ranked third on the Vandals’ roster last season. Idaho placed fifth at the 2026 Mountain Pacific Sports Federation Championships.
