POLL: Who is the Biggest Omission from Team USA for This Summer’s Pan Pacific Championships?
The United States’ selection procedures for this summer’s Pan Pacific Championships hinged on several meets from last year, an approach that has been used by USA Swimming in the past. The competitions that could grant qualification were:
- 2025 World Championships
- 2025 World University Games
- 2025 World Junior Championships
- 2025 National Championships
- 2025 TYR Pro Summer Championships
Ultimately, a strong squad was named for action in Southern California in August, the likes of Katie Ledecky and Jack Alexy ready to lead the United States against foes from Australia, Japan and China, among other nations. However, the early-selection process also led to the roster omission of several athletes who are enjoying breakout stretches, specifically Anna Moesch, Isabelle Stadden and Luka Mijatovic. All three have been superb this year. Consider:
- Moesch just set the American record in the 100-meter freestyle, going 51.94 at the AP Race London International. The University of Virginia star has also excelled with personal-best efforts in the 50 freestyle (24.27) and 200 freestyle (1:55.81).
- Now training with the UVA pro group, Stadden has rocketed up the all-time rankings in the backstroke events. She now sits third historically in the 100 backstroke (57.55) and ranks fourth all-time in the 200 backstroke (2:04.37).
- Mijatovic is considered a future star for the United States and recently set a 17-18 NAG record in the 400 freestyle (3:45.20) while also dipping under the 15-minute barrier in the 1500 freestyle for the first time. More, Mijatovic has been 1:45 in the 200 freestyle.
