New Miami Heat forward Bobby Portis bid farewell to Milwaukee fans during a pop-up shop in the city on Wednesday, closing the chapter on a memorable six-year stint with the Bucks.
After becoming a fan favorite and helping Milwaukee win the 2021 NBA championship, Portis said it was important for him to personally thank the community and “send it out the right way.”
“You kind of understand it, but at the same time it’s kind of hard to let go,” he said of being traded.
“To be somewhere for six years, win a championship and get so much support like I have from a city, it’s tough.”
The player spent six seasons with the Bucks and became one of the franchise’s most beloved players before being traded to the Heat this offseason.
Portis has played 11 seasons for 4 teams, including the Bulls. He has averaged 12.1 points and 7.1 rebounds in 721 regular-season games.
He has won 1 NBA championship.
