BYU big man Keba Keita plans to enter NCAA transfer portal

BYU senior big man Keba Keita plans to enter the NCAA transfer portal, a source told On3.

Keita was part of a California lawsuit that granted 73 student-athletes a temporary restraining order against the NCAA, effectively giving them a fifth year of eligibility. The lawsuit allows Keita to enter the transfer portal outside of the normal window (April). He now plans to enter the portal and explore his options for one more season of college basketball.

The 6-foot-8 forward/center averaged 6.2 points, 7.2 rebounds, and 1.8 blocks per game while shooting 68% from the field this past season. He also averaged 7.4 points and similar rebounding numbers as a junior with the Cougars.

A native of Mali, Keita began his college career at Utah, where he spent two seasons. As a freshman, he averaged 3.0 points and 3.4 rebounds per game before taking a sophomore leap, averaging 8.3 points and 5.4 rebounds for the Utes.

As a member of the Class of 2022, Keita was a three-star recruit out of Mount Pleasant (Utah) Wasatch Academy, according to the Rivals Industry Ranking. He was the No. 5 overall prospect in the state, the No. 22 forward in the class and the No. 154 overall prospect in the class.
