Caitlin Clark can’t stop breaking WNBA records.
The star Indiana Fever guard became the fastest player in WNBA history to record 500 career assists, hitting the mark on Thursday, May 28, against the Golden State Valkyries.

The milestone comes after the 24-year-old hit the 1,000-point scoring milestone earlier this season, entering Thursday’s matchup with 1,102 points and 497 career assists.
Clark, who was drafted to the Fever with the No. 1 overall pick out of Iowa in 2024, set the assists mark so quickly that it’s hard to imagine another player besting her.
She beat Seattle Storm legend Sue Bird, who hit 500 assists in 82 games. New York Liberty guard Sabrina Ionescu did it in 84. This was just Clark’s 59th career game.
Clark is now officially the league’s all-time assists per game leader. She entered the contest averaging 8.6 assists per game across her three-year career. That was already the best average in league history, but she reportedly needed to reach 500 career assists to secure her place in the all-time ranks.
Clark’s record-setting assist was her third of the game, a highlight-worthy dime to Sophie Cunningham in the second quarter.
What other WNBA records does Caitlin Clark have?
Seven games into the season, Clark has already made plenty of changes to the WNBA’s record book.

Clark became the fastest player in WNBA history to record 1,000-plus points, 250-plus rebounds and 250-plus assists as the Fever lost their season-opening matchup against the Dallas Wings on May 9. Clark hit that milestone in just 54 career games, besting Diana Taurasi’s previous mark of 62 games.
That record-setting outing was Clark’s first WNBA game since July 15, 2025 after a string of injuries limited her to 13 games last season.
Clark also made history in a win over the Seattle Storm on May 17 as the Fever notched their first home win of the season. The game was Clark’s 12th game with at least 20 points and 10 assists, extending her record for most in WNBA history. Veteran guard Courtney Vandersloot is in second place with 10 such games in 15 years of experience. Clark technically set that record in the game prior, but it wasn’t counted until a review found two of her assists were missed in the box score.
Clark’s performance on May 17 made her the first player in WNBA history with at least 20 points and 10 assists in fewer than 25 minutes played. It was also her fourth consecutive game with at least 20 points and five assists, which tied for the longest streak to start a season in WNBA history.
