Colorado football is set to wrap up fall camp this week, which means the college football season is right around the corner, and USA TODAY Sports’ 1-138 FBS power rankings have received their preseason update.
In Paul Myerberg’s updated rankings, the Buffaloes come in at No. 104, moving up three spots from their post-spring ranking. Still, however, CU is among the lowest-ranked Power Four teams, with Stanford (No. 108), Boston College (No. 112) and Purdue (No. 113).

The 1-138 power rankings fluctuate greatly from week to week. For example, a Colorado Week 1 win over Georgia Tech (No. 32) could see the Buffs vault 25-plus spots up the rankings depending on other results.
Ranking breakdown
Colorado’s ranking places them last in the Big 12, six spots behind Iowa State and two behind the Buffs’ Week 3 opponent, the Northwestern Wildcats. Coming off a 3-9 season and once again having a roster filled with new names, not to mention a revamped coaching staff, makes it difficult to place Colorado any higher.
Texas Tech is the highest-ranked Big 12 team, coming in at No. 12 with BYU close behind at No. 14. The Big 12 has solid representation in the top 25 with No. 20 Houston, No. 21 Arizona, and No. 24 Utah joining the Red Raiders and Cougars.

Notre Dame took over the top spot from Ohio State (No. 2), while Texas, Oregon, and Indiana round out the top 5.
