The format of the NASCAR playoffs has been the subject of regular tinkering over the years, and this season, the sport is returning to the tried and true Chase.
Keeping casual fans up to speed on such changes can be challenging at times. Those tuning back in for the final races of the season may be thinking that the win-and-in system of round advancement that made up the playoffs for the past decade is still in place.

To help with the adjustment, NASCAR and USA Sports brought in comedian and podcaster Theo Von to star in a new promo for the Chase, breaking down the system in its simplest terms.
“You’ve battled all season for a shot at the championship, and now you’ve graduated to the Chase,” Von begins. “16 drivers. 10 races. One champion. The rules are easy. Winning… Insanely hard.”
The video then cuts from its fictional classroom to a fast-paced highlight package.

“One bad pit stop, restart, or a mistake at nearly 200 mph… GAME OVER.”
The ad also includes jokes about drivers named Chase, Ryan Blaney’s mustache, and plenty of other shenanigans. You can enjoy it below.
Jokes aside, we are set for a thrilling postseason this year. We saw a blistering start from Tyler Reddick, and the foursome at Joe Gibbs Racing — Denny Hamlin, Christopher Bell, Ty Gibbs, and Chase Briscoe — have been running strong all season, but late runs by the likes of Ryan Blaney and Kyle Larson have opened up the championship field over the past few weeks.
The regular season comes to a conclusion this week at Daytona, and the Chase begins on Sunday, September 6 at Darlington.
