Conor McGregor: I will ‘son’ Max Holloway again at UFC 329

Conor McGregor believes history will repeat itself at UFC 329.

McGregor (22-6 MMA, 10-4 UFC) returns in the main event of the July 11 card in Las Vegas against an old foe, former UFC featherweight and BMF champion Max Holloway. This is a rematch that’s been 13 years in the making. McGregor and Holloway (27-9 MMA, 23-9 UFC) first met in 2013 in the co-main event of UFC Fight Night 26. That night, McGregor won a unanimous decision in a fight in which he tore his ACL. This time around, the Irish star believes the result will be the same, but the way it comes will be different.

“I sonned Max when I fought him last,” McGregor told Paramount+. “I plan on doing the same again in most devastating fashion.”

McGregor hasn’t fought since snapping his leg in a trilogy bout against Dustin Poirier in 2021. Meanwhile, Holloway has kept busy going 5-3, and in the process, furthering his legacy in the sport, with most notably his last-second KO of Justin Gaethje at UFC 300 to win the BMF belt.

“Notorious” respects what Holloway has done in the last few years, and commends him for taking the rematch at 170 pounds. But yet, McGregor sees himself as way better than Holloway.

“Max is a durable fighter with great skill,” McGregor said. “Not on my level, however. I’m a level above, in fact, multiple levels above – skill-wise, mental-wise, physical-wise. We’re at 170 pounds and there’s a few facets into this. He’s been a busybody. In fact, he’s got the most time spent in the octagon, which is eight and a half hours, which is a staggering amount of time. For me, I look at that and say, ‘That means you can’t finish people.’ However, he’s never fought at 170 pounds, and this is a 170-pound bout.”
