Crvena Zvezda Meridianbet Belgrade has signed Nick Weiler-Babb for the 2026-27 season, adding the 2024-25 EuroLeague Best Defender to a backcourt that is undergoing significant changes. The 30-year-old guard arrives after spending last season with Anadolu Efes and following his brief agreement with ASVEL, which was disrupted by the French club’s financial difficulties.
Weiler-Babb averaged 7.7 points, 4.8 assists and 1.2 steals in 37 EuroLeague games for Efes last season, starting 36 times while shooting 40.9% from the field and 36.6% from three-point range. He led Efes in both assists and steals and ranked sixth among all EuroLeague players in steals.
His defensive production gives Zvezda a proven perimeter stopper after the departures of Codi Miller-McIntyre and Isaiah Canaan. Since making his EuroLeague debut with Bayern Munich in 2020, Weiler-Babb has recorded 215 steals, fourth-most in the competition during that span.
Weiler-Babb also has a strong recent record against his new club. Last season, he produced 17 points, six rebounds and five steals for an index rating of 28 in Efes’ 87-65 home loss to Zvezda. In the 2024-25 Play-In Showdown, he recorded 15 points, six rebounds, six assists and two steals as Bayern defeated Zvezda 97-93.
The signing also adds experience to a Zvezda roster entering a new coaching era under Ibon Navarro. The club finished 10th in the 2025-26 EuroLeague regular season at 21-17 before making changes that included the exits of Miller-McIntyre, Canaan, Donatas Motiejunas, Jasiel Rivero and Uros Plavsic.
Weiler-Babb spent the five seasons before his move to Efes with Bayern, where he became one of the club’s statistical leaders. He ranks second in Bayern history in appearances, points and rebounds while leading the club in assists and steals, and he helped the team win two German League titles and two German Cups, including the 2024 domestic double.
His offensive role has expanded during his EuroLeague career. After averaging 6.4 points and 2.3 assists in 2020-21, Weiler-Babb posted 8.2 points, 4.2 rebounds, 4.9 assists and 1.6 steals in 32 games for Bayern in 2024-25.
At Zvezda, he joins Chris Jones, David Kramer, Patrick Baldwin Jr., Jonathan Motley and Vojin Medarevic among the club’s offseason additions. The move gives Navarro another two-way guard capable of handling the ball, defending opposing perimeter players and contributing as a rebounder.
Weiler-Babb began his professional career with MHP Riesen Ludwigsburg in 2019 after playing at Iowa State. He also holds German citizenship through his mother and represented Germany at EuroBasket 2022 and the 2024 Paris Olympics, helping the national team win bronze at EuroBasket and reach the Olympic bronze-medal game.
