Angel Reese added another milestone to her growing résumé on Wednesday night at the Gateway Center Arena. The Atlanta Dream star recorded her 21st double-double of the season in Atlanta’s 96-82 home win over the Phoenix Mercury.
Reese finished with 14 points, 10 rebounds, 4 assists and 1 block in 32 minutes as the Dream picked up their 19th victory of the season. Still, her performance garnered mixed reactions across the WNBA world.

WNBA World Split on Angel Reese’s Historic Night vs. Mercury
Reese continues to pile up double-doubles at a historic pace. With her latest performance, the three-time WNBA All-Star became the fastest player in league history to reach 70 career double-doubles.
She has also taken her game to another level since the All-Star break. During that stretch, Reese is averaging 20.0 points, 12.8 rebounds and 3.0 assists on 55% true shooting while leading the Dream in both scoring and rebounding in that span.

Against the Mercury, however, Reese also had an uneven offensive night. She missed both of her 3-point attempts and committed 3 turnovers. Her overall performance sparked a wide range of reactions across social media.
“Angel Reese on an average night: 14 points, 10 rebounds. She is a double-double machine,” ESPN’s Sam Block wrote, praising her consistency.
“She’s rewriting the record books at an unbelievable pace,” Hoops Nation gushed.
“Angel Reese is HER,” DraftKings posted, celebrating Reese’s achievement.
Not all of the reactions were positive, though.
Reese missed a handful of makeable shots around the basket. One play early in the game drew particular attention after she sprinted the length of the floor on a fast break but failed to finish at the rim.

That sequence quickly made the rounds online.
“Omg Angel Reese sucks and they gave [expletive] eyes a damn Barbie,” one detractor quipped.
“Angel Reese went off tonight,” House of Lowlights mocked Reese.
“Notice how nobody even tries to get in her face on the long shots because they know it’s an automatic miss,” another X user added.
“Angel Reese is the epitome of a DEI hire, she’s [expletive] trash at basketball,” one of Reese’s critics wrote.
“Angel Reese getting blocked by two people on the same shot 😭😭,” another X user joked.
On the flip side, Kelsey Plum continued to lead the Mercury offensively after arriving in Phoenix before the trade deadline. The two-time WNBA champion scored a team-high 19 points on 6-for-10 shooting, but it wasn’t enough as Atlanta pulled away for a comfortable 14-point victory.
Reese and the Dream will return to action on Friday against the Washington Mystics.
