The Atlanta Dream are making an early case as one of the best teams in the WNBA this season, and they proved it once again on Tuesday night. Karl Smesko’s squad went into Chicago and got a very impressive 82-75 win in a WNBA Commissioner’s Cup game.

Tuesday night was also a bit of a revenge game for Angel Reese. The Sky traded Reese to the Dream this offseason, and she made them pay for it in this game with 17 points and 17 rebounds.

This is Reese’s 57th double-double in 75 games in the WNBA, the most in NBA history according to ESPN insights. On the men’s side, almost nobody has matched that output. Only Shaquille O’Neal had more double-doubles in his first 75 games.

While the end of Reese’s time with the Sky was full of scrutiny over missed layups and overall inefficiency on offense, she has settled into a solid role on a very good Dream team where she is carrying less of a burden on the offensive end of the floor. She has eight double-doubles this season, including five in a row, and is making a positive impact on an Atlanta team that is currently tied for the second-best record in the WNBA.

While Reese may have been the star of the show, this was a team effort from the Dream to get this win. All five starters scored in double figures for Smesko, including Rhyne Howard joining Reese with a team-high 17.

On the other side, Skylar Diggins scored 17 points for the Sky and Natasha Cloud pitched in a game-high 18 points off the bench.

There will be no time to rest for the Dream after getting this win, as they have just one day off before taking on the New York Liberty in another Commissioner’s Cup game on Thursday night. They will close out their Commissioner’s Cup slate on Sunday against the Toronto Tempo. If Reese continues to play like this, maybe the Dream can make a push for the trophy and the bonus that comes with it.
