An anonymous NBA executive reportedly believes the Los Angeles Lakers should avoid breaking up their backcourt built around Luka Doncic and Austin Reaves in pursuit of Giannis Antetokounmpo.
According to the executive, the Lakers are looking to build around younger players who fit the same long-term timeline as Doncic and Reaves rather than making another major short-term move.
“Luka Doncic is 27, he just turned 27. Austin Reaves is 27,” the insider said. “That’s what they’re looking for, guys in their early prime who can grow alongside those two.”
The executive also suggested the Lakers are tired of constantly reshaping the roster and instead want to focus on finding the right complementary pieces.
“You get the sense they’re tired of constantly cycling the roster and they’re looking for the right role players to emphasize those guys,” the executive added.
While Antetokounmpo remains one of the NBA’s biggest stars, the executive questioned whether his age fits the Lakers’ current direction.
“That’s not Giannis, who is in his early 30s and just is not on that timeline.”
An anonymous executive says the Lakers shouldn’t break up a Luka Dončić and Austin Reaves backcourt for Giannis because he doesn’t fit Luka’s timeline.
