The national recruiting conversation again centers around five top teams; Florida lands at No. 8 among the programs leading college football’s 2027 cycle.
Jon Sumrall’s Gators moved down three spots from their previous No. 5 ranking. According to ESPN, Florida has 11 top-300 commitments, giving it one of the nation’s wealthiest collections of blue-chip talent. Leading the class are five-star offensive lineman Maxwell Hiller and four-star linebacker Ja’Bois Smith.

The Gators continue to build one of the country’s deepest classes in Sumrall’s first season at the helm in Gainesville. Since arriving at UF, the former Tulane head coach has changed the team’s culture and national perception. Recruits appear to be buying into Sumrall’s passion and long-term vision, with many attributing their commitment to belief in the new face of Florida football.
The fact that he’s been able to drive change within the organization in just under nine months is a testament to his impact. ESPN, along with other outlets, have consistently ranked the Gators’ 2027 class close to the top since late spring, proving that the momentum around Sumrall’s arrival is tangible.
Sumrall has made one fact clear: Florida’s SEC resurgence will begin in the trenches. While Hiller and Smith lead the group as foundational pieces, Florida has pinned down other prospects in the front seven who can be game changers.
Other notable additions include top-ranked center four-star OL Peyton Miller and four-star OL Elijah Hutchenson. The challenge for the Gators will be replacing four-star OL Kennedee Jackson, who flipped to Georgia back in June. Their leading candidate, four-star OL Antonio Berry, committed to Ole Miss just weeks ago.

With months remaining before the cycle’s conclusion, Florida is well-positioned to compete for one of the nation’s highest-ranked signing classes.
