The Hellenic Basketball Federation has announced Vassilis Spanoulis’ 17-man roster for the upcoming FIBA World Cup 2027 qualifying window, with Greece preparing for crucial games against Ukraine and Spain.
After going 3-3 in the previous stage, Greece enters Group I just one game behind the qualification positions.
Training camp begins Friday, followed by friendlies against Poland on August 22 and Cyprus on August 24 before facing Ukraine in Riga on August 28.
Greece will be without Giannis Antetokounmpo because of scheduling conflicts related to his NBA commitments. The federation stressed that his absence has nothing to do with financial or insurance issues.
Alexandros Samodurov, Neoklis Avdalas and Vangelis Zougris will also miss the window after their NCAA schools declined to release them.
Despite the absences, Spanoulis will have an experienced group led by Kostas Papanikolaou and Nick Calathes.
The roster also includes Giannoulis Larentzakis, Tyler Dorsey, Omiros Netzipoglou, Konstantinos Mitoglou, Panagiotis Kalaitzakis, Dimitris Moraitis and Nikos Rogkavopoulos.
Vassilis Toliopoulos, Kostas Antetokounmpo, Vassilis Charalampopoulos, Thanasis Antetokounmpo and Dimitris Flionis provide additional experience, while Antonis Karagiannidis, Nasos Bazinas and Nikos Persidis complete the 17-man squad.
Greece’s coaching staff will also feature a change, with Giorgos Limniatis joining Spanoulis’ bench as Diamantis Panagiotopoulos steps away.
