Patty Mills is set to make his EuroLeague debut after signing a one-year contract with LDLC ASVEL Villeurbanne, adding a 37-year-old NBA champion and five-time Olympian to a roster undergoing a major offseason rebuild. Mills will play for Tony Parker, his former San Antonio Spurs teammate, with the pair having shared the court in 430 NBA games, including San Antonio’s 2014 championship season.
Mills arrives in the EuroLeague after making his first move into European basketball with Tenerife during the 2025-26 season. He averaged 18.1 points and 1.7 assists in 17 Spanish League games, helping Tenerife reach the semifinals after eliminating Real Madrid in the quarterfinals.
The Australian guard also averaged 13.0 points and 2.0 assists in six Basketball Champions League appearances as Tenerife advanced to the Final Four. His scoring production gives ASVEL a proven perimeter option after the club lost several of its leading contributors from last season.
Mills spent 13 seasons in the NBA after Portland selected him with the 55th pick in the 2009 draft. He played 921 regular-season games and 99 playoff games, averaging 8.7 points, 2.2 assists and 1.6 rebounds while shooting 38.5% from three-point range over his NBA regular-season career.
His longest NBA stint came with the Spurs, where he played from March 2012 through 2021 and won the 2014 championship. Mills later played for the Brooklyn Nets, Atlanta Hawks, Miami Heat, Utah Jazz and Los Angeles Clippers before moving to Tenerife.
Mills also brings an extensive international résumé to ASVEL. He has represented Australia at five Olympic Games — 2008, 2012, 2016, 2021 and 2024 — and ranks fifth in Olympic basketball history with 567 points.
At the 2021 Tokyo Olympics, Mills helped Australia win its first Olympic basketball medal, taking bronze. He scored at least 14.2 points per game at every Olympics he played.
ASVEL needs that experience after finishing 20th in the 2025-26 EuroLeague with an 8-30 record. The French club had a minus-281 point differential and went 2-17 on the road, while Braian Angola led the team at 15.3 points per game in 15 appearances.
Glynn Watson Jr. averaged 14.2 points and 3.1 assists in 30 EuroLeague games, while Nando De Colo posted 13.6 points and 4.7 assists in 13 appearances. Both players are among the departures from an ASVEL roster that is being reshaped under Parker.
Parker is entering his first season as a professional head coach while also dealing with significant changes to ASVEL’s finances and ownership structure. The club’s projected budget was reduced from a reported €59 million to approximately €24 million after the DNCCG rejected a proposed Malaysian investment partner.
The financial reset has forced ASVEL to rebuild its backcourt, with Mills expected to take on major responsibilities at both guard positions. Edwin Jackson and Both Gach provide additional perimeter options, but the roster remains incomplete.
Parker is also involved in reported negotiations to sell ASVEL to the Buss family, the former controlling owners of the Los Angeles Lakers. The discussions could extend through the end of 2026, adding an ownership dimension to Mills’ arrival and ASVEL’s broader restructuring.
