‘Her Job Is Extremely Hard’ — Fever Writer Defends HC Stephanie White Amid Latest Attacks From Caitlin Clark Fans

by

Stephanie White is perhaps the most divisive head coach in the WNBA at the moment. On the one hand, she has to deal with the pressure of coaching one of the greatest talents the WNBA has ever seen.

But from another perspective, that pressure can easily be transformed into a sense of privilege, given that Caitlin Clark is considered a generational talent.

James Boyd Defends Stephanie White From Criticism

White recently revealed that it’s “harder and harder” to continue to coach in such a high-pressure environment. Amid the criticism of her statement from some Fever fans and the WNBA world, writer James Boyd came to White’s defense on social media.

“I lean on my family. I lean on my mentors. I lean on my peers,” White said while revealing she texts ‘back and forth’ with coaches in the WNBA and in college basketball.

“Often times I’ll get the reassuring text message and even if I don’t respond, I hear it and I sense it and it gives me perspective. I lean on our staff. The reality is, just like players, on some days, you just don’t have it. Life happens. And on those days, I can go to them and say, ‘I need y’all today.'”

Many fans criticized White’s coaching and her reactions to some of the high-profile incidents in the WNBA this season. However, Boyd defended White on X.

“The reaction on here is insane. Steph was asked a question. She answered, thoroughly and vulnerably. But to act like she’s making excuses instead of just describing basic human emotion is disingenuous. Her job is extremely hard. No shame in acknowledging how she navigates that.”
