Sug Sutton hit the go-ahead floater with 22.6 seconds left as Portland held off the visiting Connecticut Sun on Monday night for an 83-82 victory. Sarah Ashlee Barker came off the bench for 18 points, and Bridget Carleton also dropped 18 to go with five rebounds and three steals for the Fire. Emily Engstler added 15 points, and Sutton finished with 12 points and five assists.
The Fever, playing for the first time without All-Star Aliyah Boston, rolled to an 89-78 win over the visiting Seattle Storm on Sunday night. Clark finished with 21 points, 10 assists, and seven rebounds to lead Indiana, marking her 12th career game with at least 20 points and 10 assists, the most in WNBA history. Kelsey Mitchell and Sophie Cunningham dropped 17 points apiece for the Fever in the victory.
Clark comes in averaging 24.3 points and 9.0 assists, while Mitchell nets 23.5 points per game and Monique Billings snags 7.3 rebounds per night. Carla Leite scored 39 points in Portland’s first two games and is questionable with an ankle injury. Carleton averages 17.0 points and 2.3 steals for the Fire, with Luisa Geiselsoder grabbing 4.8 rebounds per game and Engstler blocking 2.0 shots a night.
