In-state linebacker commits to Texas A&M

The Texas A&M Aggies have the best 2027 recruiting class in the country, and Mike Elko is continuing to add on. They did just that on Monday, landing a commitment from three-star linebacker Aston Whiteside, according to On3’s Hayes Fawcett.

Whiteside is from Burleson, Texas, and picked Texas A&M over the Kentucky Wildcats and Miami Hurricanes. He officially visited the Aggies over the weekend and was set to visit his other contenders in June, but he decided to go ahead and make his commitment.

He is ranked as the No. 491 overall player and No. 41 linebacker in the Rivals industry ranking. He is also the No. 66 player from Texas. He is Texas A&M’s first commitment at linebacker so far.

Whiteside was limited to nine games as a junior at Lovejoy High School, but still made his presence felt. He finished with 46 tackles and eight pass breakups. His breakout came as a sophomore, when he recorded 104 tackles, two interceptions, five pass breakups, and two fumble recoveries in 14 games.

He is Texas A&M’s 16th commitment overall in the 2027 recruiting cycle and the ninth along the defensive side of the ball. The class features five five-star prospects, as Elko and Co. are pushing for a historic signing class.
