Indiana men’s basketball lands transfer guard Justin Monden

Indiana men’s basketball added a twelfth scholarship player Tuesday in transfer guard Justin Monden of Maryland Eastern Shore. Monden is in his final year of eligibility, having spent two seasons at Georgia Southwestern State.

Last year at Maryland Eastern Shore, Monden appeared in 32 games, making one start. He averaged six points and 1.6 assists in 20.7 minutes per contest.

Per KenPom, Monden saw spots at both the point guard and shooting guard spots, eventually earning 53% of the team’s shooting guard minutes. He’s more of a driving guard though, averaging 27% from deep on 2.3 attempts per game.

Given his limited production last year at a lower level and some of the other players on the roster ahead of him, it’s safe to assume Monden will be a depth piece. He can back up both Markus Burton and Bryce Lindsay, pressing freshman Prince-Alexander Moody in practice for those minutes.

At just 6 feet and 160 pounds, Monden might lack the size to be an impact role player in the Big Ten, but his experience as a college basketball player should be valuable to a relatively young roster that’s never played together.
