Iowa Swim Coach Nathan Mundt Gets Contract Extension
Iowa head swimming and diving coach Nathan Mundt on Wednesday received a contract extension through 2029.
Mundt has spent five seasons as the head coach of Iowa’s women’s team, the seventh coach in program history. He was hired in May 2021 after serving as an assistant from 2008-16.
The Hawkeyes won five meets in 2025-26, including a third straight over in-state rival Iowa State, and placed 12th at the Big Ten Championships. Iowa set three program records (two in relays) and 24 top-10 times.
Mundt is in his fifth season rebuilding a roster that had been down to 13 student-athletes when he took over in 2021 after it had been reinstated after a proposed cut that eliminated men’s swimming. Iowa swimmer Rachel Dildine was selected to compete for the U.S. in the FISU America Games this July.
Mundt was hired in 2021 after leading the Iowa Flyers Swim Club. He was the head coach at Western Illinois before his first stint at Iowa. He was an assistant coach and then interim head coach at Valparaiso. The native of Portage, Indiana, was a four-year letter-winner and all-conference selection at the University of Tampa, graduating in 2001.
Mundt’s contract extension was announced at the same time on Wednesday as rowing coach Jeff Garbutt.
