Irvine Novaquatics’ Grant O’Mara Selects Duke Blue Devils For 2027

NEW COMMIT: Duke University has scored a new verbal commitment for Fall 2027 from distance freestyler Grant O’Mara out of San Marino, Calif. O’Mara is a Junior National qualifier who will join the Blue Devils’ Class of 2031.

Regarding his commitment, he said:

“GO BLUE DEVILS!!”

O’Mara does his club swimming with Irvine Novaquatics. He placed 16th in the 500 free at Juniors West back in December before going on to take 10th in that event as well as 18th in the  mile at Oceanside Speedo Sectionals in February. Last summer, he competed at Junior Nationals and notched two best times at the Los Angeles Invitational.

His best times include:

  • 500 free – 4:25.39
  • 1000 free – 9:19.83
  • 1650 free – 15:39.01

Currently a junior at San Marino High School, O’Mara finished seventh in the 500 free at the 2025 CIF Southern Section Division I Championship. He is a USA Swimming Scholastic All-American.

The Blue Devils finished 14th at the 2026 Atlantic Coast Conference Championships. O’Mara’s top time in the 500 free and mile would’ve ranked fourth on Duke’s lineup last season while his 1000 free would’ve been third.
