Joe Ingles, currently part of the Minnesota Timberwolves’ playoff run, had decided that his next step would take him back to Australia, where he was expected to join Melbourne United for the 2026-27 NBL season.
After more than a decade in the NBA, Ingles had always envisioned finishing his playing career in his home country.
While both Melbourne-based organizations showed interest, Melbourne United ultimately emerged as his destination over South East Melbourne Phoenix.
His professional career had started in Australia with the South Dragons in 2006, followed by stints in Europe, including Spain and Israel, before he entered the NBA in 2014.
Over the years, he played for the Utah Jazz, Milwaukee Bucks, Orlando Magic, and Timberwolves.
