Julius Walker grieves ‘cruel’ eight-second KO loss at UFC Baku

by

Julius Walker was on the wrong end of history at UFC Fight Night 280, and it’s a tough one to digest.

After stating pre-fight that his ideal scenario would be a one-punch knockout win, Walker (7-3 MMA, 1-3 UFC) instead was on the receiving end of it when Abdul Rakhman Yakhyaev (10-0 MMA, 3-0 UFC) floored him with the first strike of the fight, leading to an eight-second finish to the light heavyweight bout at National Gymnastics Arena in Baku, Azerbaijan.

It was tied for the seventh-fastest knockout in UFC history and second-quickest in divisional history, and while all the glory went to Yakhyaev for his incredible finish, it’s Walker who deals with the agony.

Walker reflected on the harsh outcome of the fight, which came after an eight-week stint of preparation away from his family, but intends to march forward (via Instagram):
