Kawhi Leonard reportedly remains confident that his proposed trade to the Toronto Raptors will be completed before training camp, even though the deal is still on hold while the NBA investigates the Los Angeles Clippers for alleged salary-cap circumvention.
Toronto agreed to acquire Leonard on June 30 in a package that would send Brandon Ingram, Gradey Dick, two first-round picks and a pick swap to Los Angeles.
However, the transaction was paused before the scheduled trade call on July 9 because of the ongoing league investigation.
Leonard’s agent, Harrison Gaines, has reportedly remained in regular communication with the NBA Players Association as investigators continue their review, which has now lasted 11 months.
Despite the uncertainty, Leonard strongly believes the trade will eventually receive clearance, allowing him to join Toronto before Media Day on Sept. 28 and training camp in Quebec City.
The deal was also reportedly constructed with the expectation that the 35-year-old Leonard would discuss a multiyear extension with the Raptors.
He is currently scheduled to earn $50.3 million in 2026-27, the final season of his contract.
NBA commissioner Adam Silver has yet to provide a specific timetable for resolving the investigation, previously saying only that the league expects clarity “this summer.”
