The Los Angeles Lakers could find themselves competing with the Miami Heat if Klay Thompson becomes available later this season.

According to The Athletic’s Christian Clark, Miami is viewed as a potential landing spot for the veteran sharpshooter if he reaches the buyout market.

The Heat are reportedly interested in using their remaining mid-level exception to pair Thompson with Giannis Antetokounmpo and Bam Adebayo.

The Lakers have not been directly connected to trade talks involving Thompson, but the former Warriors star would fit a clear need in Los Angeles.

With Luka Doncic now leading the franchise, the Lakers are still looking to improve their perimeter shooting, an area where Thompson could make an immediate impact.

Los Angeles is also pursuing Jonathan Kuminga in a potential sign-and-trade, although the Minnesota Timberwolves have emerged as a serious contender for the 23-year-old forward.

Thompson averaged career lows of 11.7 points and 21.7 minutes last season, but he still knocked down 38.3% of his three-point attempts in 69 games.

Dallas has reportedly explored trade options for the four-time NBA champion, who is entering the final year of his contract.

However, the Mavericks are believed to prefer a trade over a buyout, meaning Thompson would likely have to forfeit part of his remaining salary if he wanted to become a free agent.

Should a buyout eventually happen, the Lakers and Heat could battle for one of the NBA’s greatest shooters, with both contenders offering Thompson a chance to compete for another championship.
