Former NBA player Enes Freedom Kanter made headlines earlier this month when he declared himself eligible for the WNBA Draft as a transgender woman, making a mockery of the league’s gender policy. Now, he’s made an even bigger fool of himself, sparking widespread outrage from the sports world.
During Sunday night’s game between the Indiana Fever and the Chicago Sky, Kanter was in attendance until he was ejected from the game following a verbal altercation with Sky guard Natasha Cloud.

Kanter Ejected
Sitting courtside in a black T-shirt that read: “WOMAN noun. adult human female,” Kanter and Cloud were engaged in a heated exchange late in the third quarter.
In the final minutes of the quarter, Cloud began walking toward Kanter Freedom and shouting at him. Kanter, meanwhile, was standing with his arms outstretched and stepped toward the court before security escorted him out.
Kanter then pumped his fist and mocked Cloud by making a talking gesture with his hand. Eventually, he waved his arms to the crowd before holding out his shirt to show its message while leaving.
‘Insanely pathetic’
Kanter’s antics sparked widespread outrage from the sports media community.

“Enes Kanter is causing more harm and damage to the women he claims he is trying to protect. THIS is lame,” wrote Robert Griffin III.
“I think we can all agree that stepping out toward the baseline in the middle of a WNBA game, getting ejected on purpose, and immediately claiming to be a victim is insanely pathetic,” wrote Pablo Torre.
“I don’t think boys should be allowed to play in girls sports. I also think Enes Kanter is an absolute clown for making this issue about him. We should be talking about how Caitlin had another double double 37 and 10,” wrote Dave Portnoy.
“I have largely stayed out of this discourse because it’s disrespectful to the players actively in the WNBA… But Enes Kanter is a historic loser for this whole thing and no serious person should be associating with him,” wrote Ron Gutterman of Lakers Nation.

“Name a person with less self respect than Enes Kanter…” wrote Stephen Holder of ESPN.
“This is sad and embarrassing for Enes Kanter. This is like an internet troll approaching you in public. Problem is he’s 7 feet tall with millions in the back Trolls usually live at home and are losers embarrassed to be seen in public,” wrote Jason McIntyre of The Herd.
“Utterly embarrassing for him,” wrote Dan Wolken of Yahoo Sports.
“One can believe (as I do) that those born men shouldn’t play women’s sports because it wouldn’t be fair. But one can also believe that you can have that position and not be cruel, mocking or nasty to trans people in the process. Enes chooses the latter and its clown behavior,” wrote author and radio personality Matt Jones.

“This is the adult equivalent of a baby throwing a tantrum because they need attention. Enes Freedom is the saddest excuse for an adult male that I have ever seen. Who was talking about him until he decided to troll the WNBA. He’s the epitome of irrelevant. Until he pulls this stunt,” wrote columnist Jason Page.
Clearly, Kanter’s actions did not receive much support from the media.
