The Los Angeles Lakers have strengthened their wing depth by agreeing to a one-year, $3.3 million contract with free agent forward Matisse Thybulle, according to ESPN.
The two-time NBA All-Defensive Team selection reportedly chose the Lakers after speaking with head coach JJ Redick and star guard Luka Doncic during free agency.
Those conversations focused on the organization’s vision for the team and the role Thybulle is expected to play next season.
Although best known for his defensive impact, Thybulle has also become a more reliable perimeter shooter.
Over the past two seasons, he connected on 41.8 percent of his three-point attempts across 45 games.
His defensive production remained elite as well.
According to ESPN Research, Thybulle led the NBA in both steals and deflections per 36 minutes last season among players who appeared in at least 20 games.
With the signing now complete, the Lakers have 16 players on guaranteed contracts.
The team has until opening night in late October to reduce its roster to the league’s regular-season limit, leaving open the possibility of additional trades or roster moves before the season begins.
