Nebraska continues to make a serious push for one of the biggest prizes in the 2027 recruiting class, as the Huskers remain firmly in contention for five-star tight end Ahmad Hudson.
The Ruston, Louisiana, native is rated as the nation’s No. 1 tight end and the No. 18 overall prospect in the country. At 6-foot-7 and 240 pounds, Hudson possesses the ideal blend of size, athleticism and versatility that every elite programme covets. A standout two-sport athlete, Hudson’s basketball ability has become another intriguing selling point for Nebraska, where Fred Hoiberg’s resurgence with Nebrasketball gives the Huskers something many football powers simply cannot offer.

Landing Hudson was never going to be easy. He is currently committed to LSU, but that has done little to discourage Matt Rhule and his staff from continuing to recruit him aggressively. With the recruiting calendar beginning to narrow, this battle appears destined to go right down to signing day.
Game-day visit a positive development
The latest piece of encouraging news for Nebraska fans is Hudson’s reported plan to take an official game-day visit to Lincoln this season.
That could prove to be one of the biggest moments of his recruitment.
Few programmes can match the atmosphere inside Memorial Stadium on a Saturday. More than 90,000 fans packing the stadium, the Sea of Red, the Tunnel Walk and one of college football’s most passionate fan bases have helped Nebraska leave lasting impressions on countless recruits over the years.

Getting Hudson on campus allows Rhule and his staff to sell more than just football. They can showcase the culture they’ve built, demonstrate where Hudson would fit into the offence and reinforce the vision of competing under the bright lights in front of one of the sport’s most loyal fan bases.

Of course, Nebraska is far from alone in pursuing the elite tight end.
Ohio State, Miami and Florida are all continuing to push hard in an attempt to flip Hudson away from LSU. Those are heavyweight programmes with enormous NIL resources and national championship aspirations, making this one of the most competitive recruitments in the country.

The good news for Nebraska is that this recruitment may not simply come down to who writes the biggest cheque. Every school involved has the financial backing to make a competitive NIL offer. At that point, relationships, player development, scheme fit and overall vision often become the deciding factors.
That is where Rhule has quietly built his reputation. Nebraska has consistently stayed involved with elite prospects by selling opportunity, culture and long-term development rather than relying solely on NIL.
Whether that is enough to pry one of Louisiana’s top prospects away from LSU remains to be seen, but the Huskers have done everything possible to give themselves a legitimate shot.
