The Philadelphia 76ers believe they have finally built the depth needed to withstand injuries after reshaping the roster around LeBron James, via Adam Aaronson of PhillyVoice.
In recent seasons, injuries to Joel Embiid, Tyrese Maxey and Paul George exposed Philadelphia’s lack of reliable contributors.
This offseason, however, the Sixers added James, Jaylen Brown and rookie VJ Edgecombe, while also strengthening the supporting cast with veterans Dean Wade, Anfernee Simons and Kentavious Caldwell-Pope.
President of basketball operations Mike Gansey also retained several young players expected to compete for rotation minutes, including Adem Bona, Ariel Hukporti, Dominick Barlow, Jabari Walker and Justin Edwards.
Rookie guard Labaron Philon Jr. is another player the organization believes could contribute if needed.
“I’m going to start with that: he’s talented enough to play,” head coach Nick Nurse said. “That’s kind of where it starts.”
Unlike recent seasons, nearly every player on the roster is viewed as a legitimate option if injuries strike.
Combined with James signing a veteran minimum contract, the Sixers now have greater depth and flexibility as they aim to keep Embiid and James healthy for a championship run.
