The Miami Heat are expected to add Klay Thompson on a two-year, $13 million contract once he clears waivers Sunday following his buyout with the Dallas Mavericks.

Miami plans to use part of its remaining Non-Taxpayer Mid-Level Exception to complete the signing.

Thompson will become the Heat’s 13th player on a standard contract.

That would leave Miami with enough space below the first-apron hard cap to make another addition.

The Heat will eventually need at least 14 players on standard deals, making one more signing necessary.

Several options are reportedly being considered for the final spot, including Nick Richards and former Heat players Gabe Vincent and Keshad Johnson.

Richards has spent time working out with Miami players during the offseason.

Vincent became available after ending last season with the Atlanta Hawks, while Johnson has been with the Heat for the past two seasons.

Once Thompson’s deal becomes official, Miami can turn its attention toward completing the roster with one of those candidates.
