We’ve seen some major news coming out of college basketball over the past few days with the whole five-and-five rule.
It remains unclear what will happen with that, but for the time being, multiple fifth-year players are transferring or staying at their former schools.

North Carolina found that out the hard way on Wednesday when it was announced that Seth Trimble plans to go to Louisville. Trimble is joining a Louisville team that many are considering one of the best in America, one that is also reportedly very expensive.
Not only was losing Trimble a tough situation for North Carolina, and one it probably wouldn’t have put itself in had the rosters not almost been set, but the Tar Heels now also have to worry about Trimble in conference play.
According to ESPN, Louisville is one of the best teams in America, with one of the top portal classes, which only got better when Trimble announced his commitment to the Cardinals.
Simply put, not only does this hurt North Carolina to lose a player of his caliber and what he’s meant to the program, but there’s a good chance it’s going to impact them on the court.

“Assuming the Colorado ruling holds up, Trimble joins a high-wattage lineup that includes ESPN No. 2 overall transfer Flory Bidunga, No. 11 transfer Jackson Shelstad, No. 60 Alvaro Folgueiras and No. 69 Karter Knox. Trimble projects as a top-30 transfer in the class and becomes another proven veteran to a Cardinals team that is poised to be among the top in the ACC and is 12th in ESPN’s Way-Too-Early Top 25 rankings as of last week.
“The collegiate version of a free agent haul cements the Cardinals among the top spenders in the sport next season, as the Louisville administration has been aggressive in providing resources for coach Pat Kelsey,” Pete Thamel wrote.
Trimble is a North Carolina legend through and through because of what he’s done for the program.
It would have been nice to see him finish his career at Carolina, but that isn’t how everything eventually unfolded. In this new age of college basketball, anything is possible, but it’s still weird to see him go to an in-conference rival.
