Jimmie Johnson’s final Daytona 500 already carries plenty of significance. Now, NASCAR fans are wondering whether one of the sport’s most iconic sponsor-driver partnerships could make one last appearance.
Just days after Legacy Motor Club confirmed Johnson will drive the No. 48 Chevrolet in the 2027 Daytona 500, Lowe’s fueled speculation with a cryptic message on social media that appeared to hint at a possible reunion.

While nothing has been officially announced, the post was enough to ignite excitement among longtime NASCAR fans who remember Johnson’s championship years behind the wheel of the blue and yellow Lowe’s Chevrolet.
Lowe’s teases Ally and Carvana
On social media, Lowe’s wrote:
“@AllyRacing, @CarvanaRacing need an ally for a last ride? Check your DMs.”
The message tagged Ally Racing — Hendrick Motorsports’ partner for the No. 48. — and Carvana Racing — primary sponsor for Legacy Motor Club.
Neither company confirmed any sponsorship plans, but the exchange immediately sparked speculation that Lowe’s could return to the No. 48 for Johnson’s farewell appearance in the Daytona 500.

As of now, neither Legacy Motor Club nor Lowe’s has announced any sponsorship agreement for the race.
One of NASCAR’s most recognizable partnerships
Few sponsor-driver pairings in NASCAR history are as recognizable as Johnson and Lowe’s.
Lowe’s backed Johnson throughout the most successful stretch of his Hall of Fame career, including all seven of his Cup Series championships. The blue No. 48 Chevrolet became one of the defining paint schemes of NASCAR’s modern era, helping establish Johnson as one of the greatest drivers the sport has ever produced.
Earlier this summer, Rick Hendrick announced that Johnson will return to drive the No. 48 Chevrolet for Legacy Motor Club in the 2027 Daytona 500, which is expected to be the final NASCAR Cup Series start of his career.

If Lowe’s ultimately joins the effort, it would reunite one of the sport’s most memorable sponsor-driver combinations for one final race.
For now, though, NASCAR fans will have to wait to see whether the social media tease develops into something more.
