Hoping to make a push for the final wild-card spot in the American League, the Seattle Mariners are reportedly planning to call up southpaw Kade Anderson, MLB’s top pitching prospect.
Anderson, whom Seattle drafted third overall last year, is poised to start Saturday against the Chicago Cubs, ESPN’s Jeff Passan reported on Thursday.

The 22-year-old is a bit more than a year removed from helping LSU win the Men’s College World Series. He pitched a shutout in Game 1 of the championship series and was took home the tournament’s Most Outstanding Player award.
Anderson made an immediate impact in the Mariners’ farm system. The talented left-hander has sparkled for Double-A Arkansas. In 18 appearances for the Travelers, he’s accumulated 93 1/3 innings of work. Along the way, he’s allowed only 11 runs, posting a glimmering 1.06 ERA.
He’s recorded 135 strikeouts and issued a mere 13 walks. Batters are hitting a meager .147 against him this year.
