The Yankees (68-52) have the brooms out and will go for a sweep of the Mariners (56-65) this afternoon in the Bronx.
Last night, the Yankees’ bats were the story as New York erased an early Seattle lead and ultimately won, 10-5. Trent Grisham homered twice and drove in four runs to pace the attack. The Yankees scored in all but three innings and finished the night with 13 hits. Seattle jumped out to a 4-1 lead after 2.5 innings thanks to home runs from Julio Rodriguez, Randy Arozarena, and Dominic Canzone but Bryce Miller and three relievers could not hold the lead. Paul Blackburn (4-2) picked up the win. Gabe Speier (2-3) took the loss.

The loss dropped the Mariners to 5-15 in their last 20 games and extended their longest losing streak since 2022 to six games.
Seattle will hand the ball to its ace, Logan Gilbert (8-7, 3.42 ERA), in an effort to salvage the series today. In his most recent outing against Tampa Bay on August 7, Gilbert pitched well despite taking the loss. He worked 6 2/3 innings, allowing two earned runs on four hits, while striking out six. Over his last four starts, Gilbert has continued to provide quality innings, allowing three earned runs or fewer in each appearance.
The Yankees counter with veteran left-hander Max Fried (4-3, 2.88 ERA), who has been outstanding this season. Among other statistical superlatives he has accomplished this season, Fried has allowed just one home run in 81.1 innings. His most recent start came on August 7 against Atlanta, when he tossed 6 1/3 scoreless innings, allowing only three hits while striking out seven in a Yankees extra-inning victory. Before that, he limited the Cubs to one run over 5 1/3 innings on August 1.
Lets dive into tonight’s matchup and find a sweat or two.
