Michigan football is heating up on the recruiting trial.
The Wolverines landed a pledge from four-star edge Jayce Brewer out of Indianapolis (Franklin Central) on Saturday, May 9, he announced at a press conference. Brewer had four hats on the table which included Indiana, Tennessee and Purdue, before he put on the Block M and a crowd watching erupted in cheers.
Franklin Central defensive end Jayce Brewer (21) takes part in a scrimmage on Saturday, Aug. 9, 2025, at Franklin Central football stadium in Indianapolis.
Brewer, who stands 6-foot-5 and 240 pounds, is the No. 8 player in Indiana, the No. 28 edge in the nation and the No. 342 overall player in the class of 2027 regardless of position, per 247 Sports’ composite rankings.

“Thick edge player that can slip blocks and create negative plays,” wrote Andrew Ivins, 247’s director of scouting, who said Brewer projects as a multi-year contributor at a Power Four school. “Young for the grade and is likely to undergo a major physical transformation in the coming years. Rather fluid in the lower half and can quickly change course. Finds ways to split double teams.
“Showcases good bend, but needs to improve overall rush package in hopes of generating more quarterback pressures.”
Brewer had taken visits to Ann Arbor twice recently, both in March and for the spring game in April and has an official visit set for June 19 according to his recruiting profile. He’s the second edge rusher in U-M’s 2027 class along with Muskegon standout Recarder Kitchen, and he becomes the first to commit directly to new U-M defensive line coaches Larry Black and Lewis Powell.
He’s the second commit this month, joining Kalamazoo Loy Norrix offensive tackle Jakari Lipsey and now gives the Wolverines seven pledges in the class, which is currently rated No. 30 in the nation.
