Richard Childress Racing and the NASCAR community were dealt a massive blow when Kyle Busch died at 41 years old in May. Since the 2026 Coca-Cola 600, Austin Hill has been tasked with replacing Busch in the renumbered No. 33 car. However, a recent NASCAR rumor suggests the No. 33 car’s long-term replacement might have some age restrictions.
If the No. 33 car continues to have sponsorship from alcohol, THC, and nicotine pouches, it could require a driver who is 25 years or older, as reported by FOX Sports’ Bob Pockrass. The NASCAR insider stated that those companies typically want a driver who doesn’t look close to being underage.

Hill is 32 years old and has been impressive behind the wheel of the No. 33 car in 2026. The NASCAR O’Reilly Series driver would be a realistic candidate and fit the “age restrictions” if the sponsorships continue. If the driver in 2027 isn’t Hill, Richard Childress Racing might have to find another driver who is 25 years or older.
